Taurus/Rossi/BrazTech Circuit Judge

I had a distributor call me today saying that he had just gotten a newly allocated firearm in stock that was legal in CA. He said it was the Circuit Judge and the red flag spiked and warning bells started going off in my head. Isn't the Circuit Judge an AW due to the revolving cylinder and it's ability to shoot .410? The AW ID Flowchart seems to confirm what I am thinking, or is there something I am missing? Maybe one of you guys can shed some light on this for me and agree/disagree that this is an AW.

the Circuit Judge is not a shotgun (it is not a smoothbore firearm designed to be fired from the shoulder), as such, the Shotgun AW rules don't apply to it.

i just got one a couple weeks ago, legally transferred from ffl to ffl so im sure its legal or i wouldnt be typing this right now

i have yet to shoot it since my local range does NOT allow shotguns anymore

Originally, Rossi was gonna import in a .45/410 rifled version and a .410-only smoothbore version. I've read that they aren't goint to import the smoothbore version.

So, any rifled versions should be legal, but if Rossi brings in some 410-only smotthbores, they would be shotguns and therefore AWs.

Sports South is declining to ship these in to CA due to a "conversation" with some phone flunky at DOJ. I haven't had a chance to talk to my rep yet, but as of right now SS isn't sending Circuit Judges into CA.

Not uncommon...somewhere there is a bulletin from Sac PD about the legality of the Circuit Judge...try sending them that...it actually has contact info for the PD IIRC...I'd post a link, but my search-foo is weak at the moment.

EDIT: Also, tell them to speak to a supervisor when they call DOJ...too often the people who pick up the phone first are not the brightest lights on the string.

I forwarded the Sac PD memo to my FNRA rep and he forwarded it to his bosses and they forwarded it to their lawyer (Chuck Michel) and I believe they are talking with Taurus corporate. I do believe you will see these at Friends of NRA dinners here shortly.
