CFLC system is down, CA DOJ is blaming ATF

But the BATFE FFL e-z check works fine. The DOJ is telling me that the ATF sytem is undergoing "maintenance", and that is why the CFLC log-in says my valid FFL is expired. Isn't the CFLC a CA DOJ thing? What does it have to do with the ATF? How does the DOJ get away with this crap? I can't send to CA FFL's, or receive anything from any other FFL's (like all my distributors & manufacturer).
Sorry about my rant, I'm just pissed off & frustrated. I think it's just really stupid that the DOJ makes me waste time, money, & energy to follow they rules they set that are a failure.

I just checked and it says I'm expired. A supplier was supposed to ship some guns to me today and he said he could not use the system either.

Just got an email from an East coast supplier with the message he is receiving when he views the CFLC login page:

Due to an unscheduled ATF maintenance the CFLC system is currently down. Please check the CFLC system on May 18, 2011, for an update. We apologize for any adverse effect this may have on your business.

Ran into the same problem myself. Would be nice if they get it up tomorrow, but who knows.

Tell them to ship it and simply send you the approval number when they can log in. You don't need the approval number until it arrives and even then the BATFE gives you 7 days to log it in, so just don't log it in until you get a number.

My East coast supplier called DOJ and was adamantly told that without the approval number, he absolutely could not ship any firearm to California. He has refused to ship until the site is restored to functionality based upon that conversation. Luckily, I only have a few thousand tied up in this shipment. I can only imagine the chaos this is causing for large businesses.

WRONG! It is a misdemeanor for you to accept shipments without that number. The out of state supplier is in no way liable for shipping firearms into this state with their federal license. The state cannot tell a gun dealer out of state not to send in a shipment to a lawfully licensed FFL.

The entire law is based on the in state FFL. If you accept shipments without the number, you are guilty of a crime.

Give me your suppliers contact info and I will give them a call for you. This is not a big deal and they can easily print out the approval number later and fax or e-mail you a copy or simply the number. Get the goods moving across the country at least.

Also worst case scenario, your supplier ships the package, runs you later, you come back as not eligible to receive the shipment, they call the DOJ and say they accidentaly shipped it without and when they tried to, you came back denied. Let the DOJ handle it from there.

How would FFLs function in Free America is they didn't have the State of California to tell them whether they can ship guns or not? Oh wait, they do it to the other 49 states and it isn't a problem.

Interesting... I had $25,000 worth XO-26's to ship out yesterday and the system was down. When I saw the system down this morning, I called DOJ to tell them that we can't be sitting on inventory due to their system. The DOJ rep actually said to "send it anyway, and do the AI when the system is up later." I guess Wes' explanation makes more sense as to why that was said by the rep.
