Legally, there is no distinction between a "private" dealer and "retail" dealer. But there are some "kitchen table" dealers still around who don't have a retail storefront. They do tend to have slightly lower transfer fees, but that is not always the case. There may very well be a gun shop close to you that charges lower out of state transfer fees than your closest "kitchen table" dealer.

I just did this same type of transaction, and any FFL can do this for you all though some prefer not to all you have to do is locate your local FFL's and price check. not all charge the same. some will not do this transaction when it is a firearm they stock if it comes from another FFL, should be no problem if your buying for a non FFL

You might post were you are located so that people can give suggestions.

As was said, there is really no difference between FFLs, all are considered "retail" dealers.

Try looking here, you can click on the map and then zoom in on your area: CA FFLs

If that doesn't work...you can look at this list: Auction Arms CA FFLs

If that doesn't work...spend time at your local range and start asking the question of other shooters...kitchen table guys are usually word-of-mouth advertisers.
