I am working through the process of becoming a home based FFL. My question is on some of the guns in my personal collection. I have a CMP M1, a 1950's Mossberg with no serial, and 2 80 year old Winchester shotguns. All of these were bought or acquired legally without a DROS process (CMP, handed down through family, and 50 year + cash and carry). Do I need to worry about these with Cal DOJ or ATF inspections? Should I voluntarily register these? Store them at my vacation house out of state?

You should store your personal firearms, whether acquired before or after you get a FFL, separately. Otherwise, you are supposed to mark firearms which are not for sale. Having a second safe for business firearms makes life a lot easier.
You need not do anything with firearms you previously owned before getting a FFL (as long as all are legal).Last edited by kemasa; 05-06-2011, 4:05 PM.Kemasa.

Mark your personal firearms with tags that clearly state "NOT FOR SALE" if you intend to store them with you inventory.Jim

Yep, keep a separate safe as stated by the prior posters. Be aware that your entire residence is open to inspection by ATF if you are home based.Comment
