PPT is Private Party Transfer, which is where both parties go to the FFL and the total fee is limited to $35, $25 for the DROS and $10 for the FFL.
Unless the family member is a parent/grandparent/child/grandchild, you will have to go through a FFL. If it qualifies for an intrafamilial transfer, you have to fill out the form and pat $19. You can transfer the firearm to your son once he turns 18, as long as he gets a HSC card (Handgun Safety Certificate).
If you buy the firearm from the dealer, you will have to pay sales tax and generally the DROS fee is not included. You can ask the FFL and they should not take offense, although some people might, but then that will tell you to not deal with that person. Tell them all the other stuff you will purchase and that might make a difference, but it also might not. I doubt the FFL will not be able to match that price with all the fees and tax though.Kemasa.

As kemasa already noted, I believe you're going to have to wait for your son's next birthday.
PC 12078(c) is the law governing intrafamilial transfers. For handguns, it saysSee the wiki article - http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/in...Family_Members(C) The person receiving the firearm is 18 years of age or older.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

Basically no dealer is going to beat your price unless they are abusing the Glock LEO pricing too. I ran the numbers and in order to match your $500 out the door price I would have to lose money. It simply isn't going to happen.
I would explain that to you and then I would say sorry it just doesn't make business sense to me, but I would still love to process your private party transfer and sell you all of those other goodies anyway.
Basically in order for me to cut even on your sale I would have to charge you $501.30 at 8.25% tax rate. There is zero point in me selling guns at cost to a customer who just walked in the door and I have no relationship with.
I wouldn't waste your time asking a dealer and pissing them off (I wouldn't take it personal and would tell you I have the other goodies for sale).Last edited by tenpercentfirearms; 03-27-2011, 9:33 AM.www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.Comment

Thanks, i did not expect the actual numbers from anyone. Had you been closer i would do what business i had with you. i would never expect a vendor to lose money unless it is/was intended as a loss leader. For some reason i thought the margins were higher.Basically no dealer is going to beat your price unless they are abusing the Glock LEO pricing too. That Glock LEO pricing is awesome! Wholesaler pricing is not even close to LEO pricing. Thanks, i did not expect the actual numbers from anyone.
