If anyone can answer this for me I'd really appreciate it. My brother wants to give me one of his pistols for my birthday, and said we'll hit up sportsmans for a transfer this week, but i heard somewhere that between family a ppt isn't required although its vague in my mind and i don't remember where i heard that. Is there some simpler way of doing it, or do i still have to go transfer it, wait my 10 days and pay all applicable fees?

Brother to brother does not qualify for intrafamilial transfer, only vertically along the family line (father to son, grandfather to granson etc.)If anyone can answer this for me I'd really appreciate it. Will end up costing $38 + postage x 2.
Also, mother might like the pistol and not want to gift it to the other son.
Also, in order to not appear that you are doing this to circumvent the law [PC 12072(a)(4)], the gift from mother to you should be done after the mother recieves acknowledgement from CA DOJ BOF of the gift from brother to mother (takes between 2-16 weeks).
PPT is $35 and will end up being faster.
Penal Code 12072
(a)(4) No person, corporation, or dealer shall sell, loan, or transfer a firearm to any person whom he or she knows or has cause to believe is not the actual purchaser or transferee of the firearm, or to any person who is not the person actually being loaned the firearm, if the person, corporation, or dealer has either of the following:
(A) Knowledge that the firearm is to be subsequently loaned, sold, or transferred to avoid the provisions of subdivision (c) or (d).
(B) Knowledge that the firearm is to be subsequently loaned, sold, or transferred to avoid the requirements of any exemption to the provisions of subdivision (c) or (d).
(d) Where neither party to the transaction holds a dealer's license issued pursuant to Section 12071, the parties to the transaction shall complete the sale, loan, or transfer of that firearm through a licensed firearms dealer pursuant to Section 12082.Last edited by Quiet; 03-19-2011, 2:32 PM.sigpic
