Transfer question

I wasn't quite sure where to ask this but figured this would be the most likely spot.
My brother passed away a couple of weeks ago and he had owned a S&W Sigma .40. Currently it is the hands of the Roseville police department. I have a statement from them that the gun is in their possession and the gun release application that he filled out.
Aside from the death certificate is there anything else that I will need to have or any forms I should fill out? I'd rather go in prepared with everything rather than have to drive out to Roseville a bunch of times.
I'm assuming that I'd also have to do an FFL transfer, but how would that work?

You need to talk to the police officer who is handling it to see what all they need. Each department is different.

You need to make arrangements for a FFL to go and pick up the firearm. It is processed as a regular dealer sale, assuming that it is on the certified list. If not, it would be exempt since it is coming from your brother's estate. Check around since the cost for a FFL to pickup a firearm can vary and can be expensive.

Not all FFL's will pick up from LE, so your best bet is to ask the police department which FFL around town normally picks up from them...then you don't have to sit down and call every FFL in the area.

I suspect that most FFLs won't pickup a firearm from the police as it takes a lot of time and effort. I have done it several times and it can go fairly quickly to taking hours. But, I suspect that any FFL will do it IF you pay them enough :-).
