    FFL Transfer Fees

I want to ship a rifle to a dealer for a customer to see before they purchase the rifle. I was thinking to ask the customer to pay a $100.00 fee to their local Dealer for a Test Drive fee. The local Dealer would then show the gun. If the customer wants to buy it, I would deduct the $100.00 off of the purchase price and the local Dealer would be asked to hold the gun till I have been paid in full. If the customer does not want the gun, then $100.00 would be used to ship the item back. If the sale goes the local Dealer would still charge a transfer fee. Does this sound reasonable?

There are not too many of us that are going to want to get in the middle of your deal...I receive guns to sell/transfer. If upon opening the box, someone decides they don't want it, it get's shipped back at somebodies (other than my own) expense....plain and simple. I don't want to get into when or how money changes hands...that is up to the parties. Holding a gun is fine...but there will probably be storage fees involved.

I don't get it....Why not just tell the customer to buy the gun and if he doesn't like it to send it back...minus all the appropriate fees of course.

Can the gun be returned to a non licensee in another state if the sale doesn't go through?

I was thinking that Dealer doing the transfer would want to be paid for his time if the transfer does not go thru. I am also thinking since I am offering a new product to the market that the buyer would want to see the rifle before laying out the funds. I have had several people saying they want to purchase but back out at the last minute. I am thinking they want to see what they are buying.

Why would I accept the $100 from the guy? Then why does he pay you? Whose gun is it? Are you an 01 or 07 FFL?

              Sounds a bit complicated.

I can understand the reasoning, but I am not sure that you are going to find many FFLs who will do it. I would have no problem doing it. Basically if the firearm gets shipped back the FFL gets $100 minus shipping, which is often better than the transfer fees.
