    Question about proof of residence.

Hi all, I was wondering if I could humbly request some advice from the FFLs here.

As of very recently, the address on my DL is no longer valid. I moved very recently and I don't have any form of ID that has the new address on it. That's a problem because I'm chomping at the bit to buy this rifle I want and I can't transfer it until I get some valid proof of residence. I've been waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for the DMV to send me updated vehicle registration cards, which I requested a MONTH ago... Still nothing. I'm getting really impatient and I'm starting to feel really bad for the seller, who has been patiently waiting for me to get my ducks in a row this whole time.

The question is, is there ANY WAY to prove my residence without having to wait two MONTHS for the DMV to mail a new registration to me? I understand that I can go into the DMV and get a certified driving record printed on the spot with my name and address, will that be acceptable? Perhaps the DMV can issue a change-of-address statement that will satisfy the POR requirements? If I go in and have them change my DL altogether, will the temporary ID that they issue be suitable (you know, the paper one they give you until you receive the new ID in the mail)? What do you FFLs recommend I do here? I appreciate any and all advice, as this situation has got me very frustrated. Thank you!!!

Can't you run over and get a fishing license with your new address and that counts?

No. As of now, the ATF is saying a fishing license is not tecnically a government issued document.

You need a government issued document. Plain and simple.

The DMV printout would be perfect and would work for a long gun 4473.

This isn't a vehicle registration, right? It's only a driving record?

Does it work for handguns as well?

Some, not all, FFLs will accept the printout (some FFLs are uber paranoid and strict about what they accept).

The best options are: DMV registration, voter registration card, government owned utility bill (county or city owned water bills are common), property tax bill. There are a number of other alternatives...court documents etc. What your particular FFL is willing to accept is up to them.

Your Brand Registration Card will work.

I get that up here but of course, there are cow heads on the cop car doors.

No. It does not have an expiration date or a period of validity. The print out does have a date, but that date doesn't mean much to me.

The feds make no requirements on dates, just that it be a government issued document.
