I have in mind purchasing a revolver and a shotgun, over the internet from two different businesses, at less than $1000 for the pair, Would both be able to be on the same DROS form and wouldn't the fee be less then doing two separate forms? I asked two people already and they said it'll cost $140 total, #$% Seriously? and they can't put it on one form, why not? and I'm located in San Diego(south), any recommendations on where to go for best price? Thanks in advance!

ffl fee question 2 item separate purchase
Tags: None -
This is a simple one.
Handguns get DROS'd on the handgun screen, which also serves as the registration.
Long guns get DROD'd on the longgun screen, which you can add as many as you'd like.
Each dros is $25.
$25x2=$50
Transfers on handguns / rifles have different fees depending on the FFL you choose to do business with. For example our fees would be:
$25 DROS
$25 DROS
$40 Pistol
$35 Rifle
+ Tax on purchase = $125sigpic

If you can get it done "out the door" for $140 you should jump at the offer. I suspect they aren't quoting you the price with CA sales tax.
This is what your receipt should look like based on a $45 transfer fee and 8.75% tax on a $1000 purchase online:
Transfer fee: $45.00 x 2 = $90.00
DROS fee $25.00 x 2 = $50.00
CA sales/use tax $1000.00 x 8.75% = $87.50
Total Sale $227.50
You can save on the transfer fee by looking around...but the other two charges, tax and DROS are going to be the same everywhere (tax will vary by a quarter percent or so depending on where you go)
In San Diego, you can try Gussler's in Santee. Owner is named Don.Last edited by jtmkinsd; 02-19-2011, 3:11 AM.Originally posted by orangegloWelcome to failtown, population = you.Comment

Thanks jtmkinsd and ParallaxTactical! I appreciate the info, however I can't drive 45 minutes into the North county or East county to do this. I miss Weissers and Krasne's! UGH!
Wouldn't buying direct from a local Dealer be two fold, as they charge more per item and charge less fees, compared to buying over the internet as they charge less per item and the fees are more? Seems to me either way I'm not getting a deal in california.Comment

It's wise to shop around...you can get some screamin deals online...so it would be cheaper to pay the fees instead of the markup any dealer is going to put on a firearm. That is not to say you won't find a cheaper deal at a gun shop...because they will normally waive the transfer fee when you buy from their inventory and you will only be charged tax and DROS fees. Thanks jtmkinsd and ParallaxTactical! So shop and compare.

Yes, they should be able to do it all on one form, but that is not what the law is, unfortunately. Complain to your elected politicians and others to get it changed.Kemasa.

well I talked to my Dealer and found out the prices, It's about equal either way. meh. 60 years ago you can mail order stuff and have it shipped to your door without any fuss. Nice Thompson delivered by the mailman....Comment

It's been almost 90 years since the mailman could leave a short barrelled, full auto Thompson on your doorstep. It's been about 43 years since he could leave a semi auto with a +16" barrel there without you being a FFL of some sort.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor
