Good evening gentlemen, I have a customer who is a Ca. resident, but stationed in the state of Washington for the last couple of years. While there, he has purchased a couple of handguns (not on Ca. list) He now has moved back to Ca. and would like to sell them both via private party transfer. Are there any issues with him selling them here even though he purchased them in Wash? Thank you very much.

I do believe he either needs to register them in like 30-60 days or he can properly dispose of them which would mean PPT.

Yes, here is the voluntary registration form. He fills it out and mails it with a check to DOJ for $19 and done. As Wes said, he also has the option to PPT them within the sixty day window as well.

Edit for clarity: He does not need to register them to PPT (private party transfer) the firearms. He just needs a valid CA DL/ID or military ID with orders to a duty station in CA.

This is the correct form. New Handgun Registration.

Pretty sure either one is acceptable, the only difference is the volreg form allows for long guns as well...and either one satisfies the requirement.

They both satisfy the requirement, but the New Handgun Registration just makes more sense.
