How much would you give for a mid-2000's Winchester model 70 in excellent condition?

You're going to have to give a little more specific information as to the specific model (there are currently 9 different "model 70" rifles), caliber, number of rounds through the gun, any optics.

With the information you provided, I can definately say I would offer somewhere between $400-$1200.

HAHAHA... point well taken.

It's not a trophy by any means. It's definitely been used, but functionally everything is 100%. The action is nice and tight, the bluing is all fine, the bore looks great. It has not been fired in over 2 years because it's been in the gun safe, but before that he's not sure how many rounds went through the tube. Looking at the bore, it looks very good.

The only defects are in the stock. I get the feeling that the rifle was hunted with, but few shots were taken with it. It definitely could use a stock refinish, but that's about it.

Is it the classic (claw extractor) or pushfeed action?
Long or short action?
What cartridge is it chambered for?

The "defects in the stock" comment is worrisome. Without seeing it in person, if I was going to take it in as a trade I would probably offer you $500. Again, that is a ballpark (you still didn't give the caliber...that is a determining factor) and assuming the stock wasn't in terrible shape (I'm assuming it is a wood stock as well).

Best option...troll around gunsamerica and see if your specific gun is listed...my guess is it will be many times over. You can get a feel for a value (although remember those are "starting prices" listed there). A lot of the prices seen there are "negotiable" so don't think because you see your gun listed for some outrageous amount that's what you will get for it.

WHat I mean by blemishes is that the rifle has been used. You can see light scratches on the wood where someone hiked through the brush with it, but nothing a little sand paper wouldn't take out. There are no gouges.


This is a .3006, based on the serial number, I believe it is a 2000-2007 model which is the push-feed model. I'm not sure if it's short throw or long throw.

I'm having trouble finding any information on the rifle.

OK.... as it turns out... I guess this thing was made in 1968. Given that, it is in really good shape for being that old...

If it's a 30.06 then it's a long action. It could or could not be a pushfeed since USRA made both actions during that time period. The Classic action is worth more.
