    Pistol transfered as Rifle?

Can any of you FFL01/07 types confirm something for me?

    Hypothetical Situation:

Not banned by name UZI clone pistol to be purchased by consumer from out of State mail order dealer, or Gunbroker, and shipped to California FFL01/07. The consumer brings a 16" rifle length bbl, bullet button, and stock for UZI to the shop for conversion by the FFL dealer of UZI into rifle.

    Questions:

Is this a legally acceptable method to get what I want?

    Has this been done before?

Is it a pain in the butt to do?

    Disclaimer:

I know there are potentially controversial legal hoops to try and convert the rifle back into a pistol. It is not my intent to convert a rifle back into a pistol.
There is something special that I want that is readily available as a pistol and not as a rifle. I want this item as a rifle only and not as a pistol.

    Thanks guys!

I do believe that once it is a rifle, you cannot take it back into a pistol as it really is a short barreled rifle. Someone smarter than me on this will come along and confirm.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

Oh, no worries. I don't want the item I have in mind as a pistol. I want a rifle, but they're more readily available as a pistol. Instead of waiting for a rifle I want to convert the pistol into a rifle.

If it's a CA legal clone and either the gun, or the buyer is exempt from the roster, sure, you could DROS the firearm as a pistol, pick it up 10 days later, then turn around and give it back to the dealer (assuming he/she will do the mods for you) and convert it to a rifle. No, you "technically/legally can't" turn it back into a pistol (a really stupid and clouded legal area). There are CA legal Uzi carbines already available...so unless you have your heart set on a certain model that doesn't already come in a carbine version, it's more of a pain in the butt than I would really want to go through.

I don't want to DROS it as a pistol. I want it to already be a rifle when I DROS.

Then you'd have to have it shipped to an 07 for the modifictaion, then DROS it. An 01 can't make that type of modification unless the firearm is already yours and you're just bringing it in for gunsmith work. It's stupid, I know.

Sounds like an FFL07 is the ticket then. Now it's time to do some more research for what I want.

              Thanks
