    Selling a rifle in Calif?

I recently sold a rifle here on calguns. Can I ship directly to the Ca FFL dealer or do I have to go thru my local dealer? The receiving FFL told me I can't ship to him direct.

Legally, you can ship directly to the receiving dealer. However, it appears that he has a policy against receiving firearms from unlicensed individuals, which many dealers have.

As stated, it is legal for you to ship the firearm directly to a FFL, but some FFLs refuse and even go further by making false claims that it is illegal for you to ship it directly, rather than admitting it is their choice.

You can call the BATF to confirm that it is legal. Personally, I think it is best to find another FFL if the FFL is lying when they say it can not be shipped directly.

This may be the last gun I sell to anybody in Ca. I live in a small town. One local dealer won't do it, another wants $100 to ship it. I've got one more to call. I checked with the DOJ and they say its OK for me to ship. Last option would be for me to drive 100 miles to the buyer's FFL.

See if the buyer can find a FFL who will take it.

Make the buyer drive to your ffl and do a PPT. With only 100 miles distance, you'll save money that route. You wont have to pay shipping charges, and the FFL transfer fee that is higher than a PPT fee.

I guess the other question is where are you located.

All of the fees and shipping should be paid for by the buyer, so let them pay or find a reasonable place.

tell the buyer to find an FFL that is willing to accept a shipment from a non-licensee. I'd suggest Bright Spot Pawn or Ammo Bros as FFLs that are close to him, would most likely receive a shipment from a nonlicensee, and have decent transfer rates.

Try using http://www.gunsmithlocator.com/ to find a ffl close to the shipping point
You need a shop with a "FFL 01 or 07" and is license to sell firarms in CA. Most owners do not know in CA you need to be license to sell firearm
FYI There is a license just for manufacturing and gunsmith how can not sell firearm (Centralized List of Exempted Federal Firearms Lice(CLEFFL) )

If the buyer says he wants to use that dealer, then the buyer should pay any cost associated with using that dealer. So if it costs you $100 to send it to him, he needs to pony up or find a new dealer. Just put it back on the buyer.

I would also caution you not to assume that this trouble is caused by CA. Many dealers all across the nation choose to make life harder for everyone and have guns shipped from an FFL. I actually first ran into such crazy thinking from an out of state dealer.

I am a CA dealer and no way in hell would I ever make you ship me a firearm through another dealer. The less work all of us legally have to do the better.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

                          REALLY?

If you do this, you are supporting the anti-gun movement in your own home state.

                          I hope you reconsider!

This is why you should always add this to your want to sell adds. "If your FFL will not accept firearms from an individual, you (the buyer) are responsible for all additional shipping fees".
