BATFE Accepts BB Equipped Rifles as "Non-Detachable Magazine" Firearms.

Some time ago, before the "long gun bulk sales reporting" law was to go into effect, I sent an email to BATFE asking for clarification of what the Federal government defined "detachable" magazine firearms as. I just got their response:

Thankfully the proposed requirement has been shelved...but it's nice to get the definition somewhat nailed down from the BATFE.

Great, now Mexican drug cartels are going to start using BB'd rifles to get around the reporting requirements....

So, using Californias definition, I would report almost no long gun sales that fit the federal description of .22 caliber or greater, semi-automatic, detachable magazine firearms.
no mini 14s sold in a while huh

        Good JOB!
        What Is A Veteran?

A "Veteran" -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of "up to, and including his or her life."

          oooo.... interesting....

this may have 'sporting purposes' implications for import.

While I have several letters pending with ATF, this wasn't one of them. I sent this question by email via the ATF website because of the time constraint. Emails get answered in a quicker fashion.

yah, I have a letter into the Tech Branch coming on 10 weeks now, with no response. And I can't get a call back from Tech for a status update on it either.

Take on import for "sporting purposes".

While it could open the door on "sporting purposes", I think we need to see about possibly creating a new class of arms.

That class of arms is "suitable for military/police/self defense" purposes.

After all, wasn't that the holding of the "Miller case".

Interesting, tailor the classification to fit SCOTUS decisions already rendered.
