Shipping a DE to get it chromed

I have a DE 44 mag VII. Its not on the roster.

I do want to send it to magnum research to get chromed. I know I can do that part of it.

How do I get it back?

Can they ship it back to me directly or does it go to a FFL?

Can they ship me back an off roster gun??

Any opinions on what chrome job looks best on a DE? There are seven choices....

Check with Magnum Research and make sure they understand they can ship it back to you directly. The only time you can't have the firearm back is if you send it back to the factory and they replace the frame, or decide to give you a new gun. New serial number means it needs to be DROSed again...and unless you're exempt from the roster, you're out of luck.

No opinion on the chrome...not a "shiny gun" guy.

I'm not up on the laws on this, so I'm not going to be much help there. I will give you my opinion on the finish though .
I think the brushed chrome looks very nice on the Desert Eagles. You could go all out and do the TiN coating, and you'd never have to clean more than wiping a cloth over it. That's the same stuff they coat carbide end mills with, and it stands up to a lot of abuse.

Perfectly legal for you to send it to them and for them to send it back. They will already know this as well. As long as the serial number doesn't change, you already did your paperwork and no further paperwork is required.

TiN is amazing stuff. I was shicked at how much better it cut up some 80% lowers I had than uncoated bit. Thats a great idea and thanks for the tip.

Thanks to all of you for the answers.

Try Accurate Plating, they used to do factory finishes for MRI. You'll get a much faster turnaround time as well.

I have *heard* that the chrome/gold finish from MRI has a tendancy to flake off after popping off some rounds. I wouldn't know, I kind of like mine black.
