    Min Num Of Sales Required?

Is there a minimun number of firearm sales an FFL must make every year to keep his license? If there is a minimun, could someone point me to the section that states it?

Many years ago I saw a news story where politicians wanted to stop the individual that wanted an FFL to buy at discount or via mail. They suggested a requirement of a minimun number of sales per year to weed out the non-professionals.

    Thanks!!

I do not think there is a "minimum" number of sales you need to make. You just need to be in business. Good luck.

I would assume that the cost of maintaining an FFL would prohibit the person that wants to obtain an FFL for the purpose of receiving a personal discount. I know in my jurisdiction, what with local license, cfd renewal, etc. the costs would easily eat up any personal discount benefit.

there is no minimum by statute, but as the other guys pointed out, you do need to be activly engaged in business.

What this means is that you have to be seeking out customers, via whatever means, and you need to obtain a business license from the locality you are operating in as well as any required permits and insurance.

The days of being able to send off for the FFL and collect are long gone - many municipalities will not even allow home-based FFL's in their jurisdictions.

I suspect that there is a bit of a gray area. You could sell nothing and not have a problem, especially if you don't do any transfers to yourself. If it appears that the main purpose is for your own personal use, then there could be an issue as it could be claimed that you are not really in business.

A good example would be a gunsmith...they have to have an 01 (they used to have their own FFL, but it got rolled into the 01 FFL) and they wouldn't necessarliy have any sales...ever.
