    4473

Hi everyone new to the forums here.

I have a question about the 4473 form.

I want to buy my first shotgun, But when i was a juvenile at 15 i got two misdemeanors. One was for possession of marijuana .2 of a gram, and the other was shoplifting. As soon as i turned 18 i got my record sealed and this was 5 or so years ago.

Will this prohibit me from buying a shotgun ?

And i would answer no on the question where it ask if I'm addicted to any substance, even though i got arrested for it i do not use it.

    Help appreciated thanks

    Probably not.

There's a way to have DOJ "pre-clear" you IIRC. It's a small fee that you'll have to pay again when you DROS the gun you decide to buy.

I'm betting that someone will be able to post the link before I can find it...

    Edit:

    Here you go. http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/pfecfaqs.php

It might just be easier to DROS the gun and find out if you're approved 15 days later. The PFE takes 30 (minimum).

I was planning on doing that.

But then i have another problem, I'm in California right now and want to purchase in California. My residency is in Nevada and i have a drivers license from Nevada.

On the Personal Firearms Eligibility form i have to get it notarized.

It ask for my California drivers license but i have one issued in Nevada. So should i get a Personal Firearms Eligibility form for Nevada. And have my answers mailed to me where I'm now in California. Or should i fill out the California Personal Firearms Eligibility form with my Nevada information.

      What a pain .........

If you aren't a CA resident, with CA ID/DL, you can't buy a firearm in CA.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Could i buy it online and have it shipped to a FFL dealer in California and pick it up. Or is there no way around this.

This is true in most other States. Federal law allows FFLs to transfer rifles and shotguns to out of state residents under certain conditions. But one of the conditions is that the transfers follow the law of both the FFL's State and the buyer's State.

Since California requires you to have either a California DL or ID from the California DMV (or military ID with orders) to receive a firearm from a dealer in California, you are out of luck.

You can either get a California DL or ID or you can just buy a firearm the next time you are residing back in Nevada.

If you plan on staying in California, get a CA license. If not,get a California ID card. My son brought a pocket knife to school when he was 16, it had a two inch blade. Someone told the school resource officer, he was arrested on a felony. He was told after a year it would be reduced, eventually he got his record sealed. That said, He buys guns all the time with no problems.

Yes, you can purchase a firearm from any state; you must then have it transferred to your state of residence.

It must be shipped to your state of residence to complete the transfer.
