Several times now I've seen people post that the seller in a PPT needs to leave a thumbprint. Is that mandated by law?

Seller's Thumbprint

I do not see any such requirement in the law. The only mention of a thumbprint is in respect to a purchaser or allowing someone else to provide it. I suspect that they do it in case the purchaser is not allowed to purchase the firearm, but the seller is never a purchaser and the firearm would be returned, not purchased.
(6) Using or allowing another to use one's identification, proof
of residency, or thumbprint.
(2) Effective January 1, 2003, the purchaser shall provide his or
her right thumbprint on the register in a manner prescribed by the
department. No exception to this requirement shall be permitted
except by regulations adopted by the department.Kemasa.

when I did a PPT at Ade's earlier this year as the seller, IIRC they had me fill out a "pawn" ticket of some sort and that I needed to put a thumbprint on it. So, it might not be in the firearms penal code that a fingerprint is needed, but might be required through the pawn codesJack

I don't require a seller thumbprint. The thumbprint requirement is to simply help prove the identity of the buyer. In theory if they actually investigated, they could look at the thumbprint to see if it really was that person or not.
They don't care about the seller.www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.Comment
