Mag requirement on a pistol for PPT

Is there a magazine requirement for PPT? say im buying a pistol for competition, its not coming with any mags, just the gun, am i required to provide a 10-rder magazine to process it? what if i only have pre-banned high cap mags?

reason being is i've heard of a FFL requiring 10-rder magz for PPT.

I just did a recent PPT and I put all the mags in my vechicle. I took the handgun in the store to complete the DROS and the transfer with the previous owner. The FFL requested I retrieve "a" magazine to put with the gun for the transfer.

On the flip side the same FFL dealer had a Browning hi power for sale, without mag. Most probably because it was the original mag no longer legal.

Curious to see the responses to your question myself

If the HSC safety demo is required, then a magazine is needed. It need not be left with the firearm and does not need to be 10 rounds, but only available in order to do the safety demo.

Just did a PPT on a hi-power and previous owner kept the mags cause they were hi-cap had zero problems. This was at bay area gun vault, not sure if other FFL's would be different.

I think this is what he needed the mag for. He didn't mandate that I get the magazine. He said it was "better" if it had the magazine with the gun.

It does not matter if it is with the firearm or not. I have sold firearms without a magazine due to high capacity issues and had the buyer bring a magazine at the time of pickup to do the safety demo. The safety demo can also be done at the start, such as in the case that the seller is keeping the magazines.

I can understand that the FFL would like to have a magazine with the firearm, but it really does not matter and is not really "better" in my opinion. The reason to have the magazine is if the buyer does not pick it up, it is easier to sell.

Thanks for all the replies, and to make it clear, firearm is NOT required to have a magazine upon transfer (PPT) correct? for pick-up i understand the need for a magazine.

The FFL needs a magazine for the safety demo only, not to sell or transfer it. So, with that said, how do you perform an HSC Demo on a single shot pistol?

That was my last post, for HSC demo, the pistol needs a mag to show safety. Thank you all for the helpful replies. i now rest my case

Simple, you follow the instructions. Page 29 of the manual (page 31 of the PDF file).

Is that supposed to be a trick question???
