    FFl Transfer

Well its the first time I deal with any FFL to get a sweet out of state piece I couldn't let pass me by. Anyway I'm not sure of what a reasonable ballpark fee for this transfer would be. I have an FFL ready but I'm not too sure if he's rippin me off or not.

The total cost would be $25 (DROS) + $40 (FFL transfer fee) + $19.80 (sales
    tax on $40 + $200) for a total of $84.80.

This is what he said it would amount.....it's lookin steep *** hell to me...anyone got any words of wisdom?...

    Sounds about right.

I've been quoted transfer fees ranging from $75-175 (includes DROS) from various FFL dealers in SoCal.

$40 isn't bad. I charge $50. Did you buy it from a retailer out of state or an individual? If you bought it from an individual, no sales tax.

You can find someone cheaper, but how much time are you going to spend doing it?

Yes I did buy from an out of state dealer.
And I think there has to be a cheaper ffl out there, buying out of state is much more convenient than any of my local shops, now i know this doesn't have to cost nearly a hundred every time!....well I either become one or go looking for a cheaper one. Does anyone know a good decent pricing FFL in the san fernando valley?

It is a sticky in this very forum.

And really it is only costing you $40. You would have to pay the $25 DROS no matter where you got it and legally if you don't pay the sales tax with the dealer as the dealer is on the hook for it, you are supposed to claim it as use tax at the end of the year.

It is a bit funny since I assume that this is the same person who called me and I guess he does not think that I would read this.

What was not mentioned is that I give a discount to members of firearm rights organizations as I think that anyone who owns a firearm should belong so as to help maintain our rights. I don't care which organization as I know some people hate some groups. This person does not belong to any, so there is no discount of $15, with sales tax it amounts to $16.24.

Considering the time involved in doing a transfer, not all of which the buyer sees, and all of the expenses involved with being a FFL, I have to wonder what people really think is a fair price.

No it's fine with me if you read it. I just needed a second opinion being the first time I do a transfer of this sort. Just never expected it to cost that much. I understand the fees imposed don't really come from you. That's why forums are here, for information. The services provided by FFL's are unique and in this case costly but that's the law..

$40 is really not that much, plus you could drop it to $25. You also don't see all the fees that I have to pay for licenses and permits, so $40 is nothing.

You are right about joining a gun club and will do so soon, not just for the discount but for the good cause. overall its just $25, your right. The whole transfer/tax part is costly. I do appreciate the service.
