    Roster Exempt for LEOs

What qualifies as an LEO for State/Feds?

For an ATF agent, does anyone that has an ATF looking badge qualify? I'm not sure if every ATF employee gets a badge or not. I'm not even sure if I need to care. The badge isn't shiny like an LEO shield, it looks more like a passport or maybe even corporate ID sort of thing.

My question is if they work for the ATF and have a picture identification thing that says the agency + some identifying number does that qualify them for roster exemption? The exemption talks about peace officers so I'm a little confused if anyone working for an agency such as the CHP, ATF, DOJ, etc... that has an employee badge basically with an ID number if that qualifies..

A related question relating to copying (or rather not copying) federal identification.. does that count for military IDs? I've been keeping copies of military IDs for HSC exemptions and only realized recently when talking to my wife that it is also a federal document.. I can go back and destroy my copies noting the information as I would other federal documentation, but wanted to get some clarification.

    Thanks!

You are not supposed to make copies of federal credentials as far as i know and I would just write their agency and ID number with the paperwork. I always make copies of ID's, HSC, HSC exemtions and LE (non fed)/MIL ID's. LE that are sworn officers and not just guy that has an ID that never went to an academy and just trying to pull a fast one and get some non roster firearms.

I want to see officer somewhere on the badge. Front desk jockey won't work.

Mil IDs -- aren't those considered Federal Credentials or is the military a special case?

I'm not sure I understand what you were trying to say with the underlined section.

I don't know how the rest got underlined I didn't do that intentionally. The Mil ID is just that, an ID so it should be the same as copying a CA DL or ID and isn't the same as federal credentials. Hope this helps, it all the sudden got late!

It isn't a federal ID like a BATFE agent would have a federal ID? I am not following you there.

Yeah I have copied the military IDs, I forgot they might be federal.

Serivce members are not supposed to allow thier Mil IDs to be photocopied.

Its a federal document and IS considered Military "credentials", not like a state DL/ID.

I have had gun shop owners refuse to sell to me because i would not allow them to copy my Mil ID.

I'm assuming this applies to retired/non-active folks as well, not just active military, correct?

Same here...the only reason I even thought of it was that i was explaining to my wife that we're not allowed to copy Federal IDs and when she was auditing my paperwork she asked me, "I thought we weren't able to copy federal IDs, but we have a bunch of military IDs copied."... that's what made me post up here, because I wasn't thinking of them as federal IDs either..
