    RIA Roster Question

    1911A1-45FS RIA MATCH

On or off roster? the "match" designation isn't marked on the pistol itself. Does this fall under the standard M1911-A1 that's on the roster? Barrel length matches.

Assuming On Roster -- anyone know where to get one? From what I understand they are a limited run and I don't see them even listed at my 2 distributors that carry Armscor/RIA.

    Thanks,

It has to be the exact model number, so I would doubt that it would be considered to be on the list based on what you said. You could call and ask the CA DOJ to confirm that.

Remember, an Olive Drab Glock 17 is listed separately from the normal Glock 17 and the only difference is the color.

I understand the exact model naming.. The reason I still asked the question was if I didn't have the box for the RIA match and just picked it up, I'd have to assume it was the 1911-A1 which is on roster as there would be no other markings for me to tell otherwise.

Color is a little more obvious

Everything on this gun other then "match" in the product description matches the 1911-A1

Well, that is part of the problem with the list and how it can be enforced. If you look at a Sig P229 SAS2, it is marked as a SAS and there is no easy way to know that it is not really on the list unless you really know Sig firearms.

In this case you know that it is a different model and know that it is not on the list.

The only way you would get caught is if the CA DOJ checked with the manufacturer to see what it really was. I doubt that the CA DOJ would do that unless there was something that let them know that was an issue (such as seeing a post in a public forum). Law enforcement would not know or care about it. The bottom line is that you know it is a different model that is not on the list and you posted the question to a public forum so you can no longer claim that you did not know.

Color is more obvious, but that assumes that you know what the color should be and know that the color changes the model.

I understand what you're saying, but am still a tad confused. Here's why:

          1) I'm still on the fence whether this is on the roster or not
          2) Some more examples from RIA from this page:

          Include:
          1911A1-45FS RIA TAC
          1911A1-45CS RIA TAC

Neither of these are exactly listed on the roster. However, this is:
          M1911-A1 Tactical / Steel

So, if I just went with EXACT model number there are 0 RIA Tactical's that are on the roster. Hence my continued confusion.

I understand what you're saying, but am just confused since RIA Tactical's are getting DROSd all the time, but none of them are 100% listed on the roster exactly as written based on data from the website.

Ask the CA DOJ or the manufacturer for the specific models submitted. Part of the problem is that the list does not specify the specific model of the firearm that was submitted (look at Ruger firearms for an example). The names and models are often different and what is listed is hard to determine.

There are CA FFLs who are submitting a DROS for a Sig Pink Mosquito, it is not on the list. If you look at the speed people are driving on the highways, you will see many people speeding and breaking the law, so you can not go by what others do.
