Web Hosting Cancelling my Website

Hey all,

Need to find a new web hosting company or may have to actually put in my own server. I don't know. Anyway, just received this from my website hosting company.

9.03 Prohibited Offerings.
No Subscriber may utilize the Services to provide, sell or offer to sell the following: controlled substances; illegal drugs and drug contraband; weapons; pirated materials; instructions on making, assembling or obtaining illegal goods or weapons to attack others; information used to violate the copyright(s) of, violate the trademark(s) of or to destroy others' intellectual property or information; information used to illegally harm any people or animals; pornography, nudity, sexual products, programs or services; escort services or other content deemed adult related.

Along with certain other legal (and illegal) activities, we do not permit websites that provide, sell, or offer to sell weapons (including firearms) on our servers.

I am now wondering who any of you all use to host your respective websites? I imagine they have something like this in their terms of service....maybe they just don't enforce or am I with the one and only anti-2nd amendment hosting company?

I have done websites & hosting for many years as a hobby. If the above company is ok with your products and the price is right that might be good. Make sure you shop around and make sure they have good customer service. It's a pain to move & setup a website. Many changes are needed on the technical side. You don't want to do this more than once. If you want total control lease a dedicated server, costs anywhere from $50 and up. but you will have to pay for setting it up if you don't have the knowledge. Usually as long as what you are doing is not illegal it's ok.

I would offer my services but I'm not interested in doing it any more. However, if you have any questions about the move or hosting issues, I would be happy to give any help I can free of charge.

Thanks for the offer. I did look around and finally called http://www.geovario.com. So far I am really impressed with how fast they jumped in to help (and their empathy....sounds like I am not the first to be in the position). Anyway, only time will tell on uptime and services, but so far, they are impressing the hell out of me.

Hostmonster is who canceled me. Then GoDaddy said NO to a gun site as well.

When time came for us to choose hosting, there was no question. GEOVARIO.

We work very hard. Nice to know we are doing well.

If I get my way - we'll be doing much better... And yes, we get a lot of ex-Daddy, ex-Monster, and ex-Homesteaders (now that Intuit bought them).

WE went through all manner of hassles so now we have our own servers in a colo. Got a nice 8 way server pair running the main site, with a whole set of others doing the ancillary work.

Of course this is just going back to what i used to do for the last 20 years so really isnt a big departure for me

Interesting; our gun website is hosted by Go Daddy...

Edit to add: Go Daddy hosts our website apparently because we do not have an online store. So they will host a gun website, but not provide merchant services.

Well, that makes sense. Since you aren't selling, you are just expressing your freedom of speech. So, it sounds like they are only willing to trample on your 2nd amendment rights, not your first amendment rights. At least we have those....for now.

If you don't want to have a rude awakening one day, I would start thinking of a migration plan over to Geovario.... trust me, it really sucks when you are told you have 48 hours to get out of town....which is exactly what Hostmonster did to me.

GeoVario was contacted by - weaponsandgear.com on Thursday afternoon at 2:24pm on 6/10/2010. They were - fully transferred and online with GeoVario at 10:43pm 6/11/2010. Total time from phone call answer to finish - 32hours and 19minutes.

Yes, I can be rather precise at times.

Happy Ending? Hell, GEOVARIO (and Michael!) are damn hero's! They got it done on their end and even were able to help us do some of the things we needed to do on our end.

Huge fan for GEOVARIO. Well done Michael.
