    Post Paperwork Exchange

Here's the situation. Customer of mine ordered a rifle with 20" barrel. I placed the order rifle came in blah blah. All the paperwork was taken care of and he picked it up today. After all the paperwork was signed he's looking at the rifle and comments the the barrel looks shorter then what he thought. I didn't think much of it but we measured. I know that for a fact I ordered a 20" barrel. I then look at my paperwork from the order I placed and although I requested a 20" barrel I got a 16" barrel. FAIL on my part. Anyways, I'm going to get this fixed for my customer. My question is:

    1) If I end up replacing whole rifle vs just the upper, do I have to re-DROS since this is an Exchange and he didn't leave the store with the rifle? I have it logged out to him, but logged back in on the same date with me.

    2) Assuming I don't have to Re-DROS, do I correct the 1st 4473 (assuming no) or do I still need new 4473 regardless?

Once you signed the 4473, the transaction is closed. Once you put the delivery date and time on the DROS, it is further done.

Is this an AR15? If so, I would see if you could order a 20" and offer to just swap him uppers. It should still be a complete rifle. That way he doesn't have to re-DROS. If he says no, explain he will have wait another ten days.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

I figured as much. It's an AR10ish rifle. He's ok with either option I was just trying to make things as easy for him as possible. I already mentioned we may need to do paperwork again. I'm checking into the pricing of getting just the upper to replace, but still may purchase a whole new rifle so I can re-sell the incorrectly ordered rifle as a whole unit.

If you can stand the inventory, that's probably the best idea. Order a whole new 16" rifle, swap uppers and sell the 20" as a whole rifle. Customer doesn't have to re-DROS, you get to sell another rifle.

My situation is reversed with respect to the barrels, but yes, that may be the route I take. I'll find out Monday if the distributor I purchased from is willing to do a swap (which would definitely require a re-DROS for customer). If not, I'll probably just do the buy a whole new rifle, swap upper scenario. Saves me an extra $25.00.
