    FFL receives DROS delay

I just got a call from the DOJ that a handgun I PPT'd to myself is on Delay for investigation. Anyone ever been through that, maybe the darn thing is stolen?

Could be any number of things.... stolen, double registration, something from DMV doesn't jive, etc. 9/10 times you call them and they'll tell you exactly what the issue is.

good luck though.... been through this and the wait is annoying, especially when it's their stupidity

Hmmm so should the seller get the money on the LAST day of the DROS?

You can call the DOJ and find out what the dely is. Unless it is just a DMV thing the DOJ will not tell the FFL what the problem is. So, if the FFL didn't tell you it was your DMV then it is a different problem. If hte problem is with you the DOJ will tell what it is. If it is with the seller they won't. If it is with the firearm they might.

You can call this #, 916-227-3680, and give them your DROS # and they can help you out.

Am I the only one who noticed the wording that he PPT'd it to himself? That tends to indicate that he is the FFL. The specific question was whether anyone else had gone through that and since this is the FFL forum, I suspect he is asking other FFLs. I have not had such an issue, so I can not answer the question, fortunately :-).

Even if a FFL PPTs a firearm to himself, it can still be held up due to DMV. The seller may also be a problem if he was a restricted person and is now on record of selling a firearm. Several things can happen but if Capt. Speirs is FFL then he would have known to call the DOJ and their ph #. If he is not a FFL and he is the seller as well as the buyer I can understand why the DOJ put a hold on it...

I did call and they said that it was under investigation. They did not say why it was under investigation, something about the background check. Obviously not mine.

Bummer. Not much you can do if the seller has a problem except give the guy a call and ask him.

I don't think that it is a good idea to ask the seller since you don't know what is going on and it could harm a police investigation.

I would be willing to bet it isn't the seller. I think the only time they run the seller is when the buyer is prohibited.

So it is either you or it is the gun itself. Becky ran a handgun once and we got a delay. She accidentally scanned the model number instead of serial number. Well someone stole some handguns from a gun shop and the gun shop screwed the same thing up when reporting them stolen.

The agent on the phone didn't believe Becky as she explained what she did wrong and the lady said they had two guns stolen with that serial number. Becky is sharp and said, "How can two handguns have the same serial number? That is the model number!" It clicked and a few days later they lifted the delay.

I am the buyer and I am an FFL, I hardly believe it is me. I called and all they said was it is under investigation and they couldn't tell me more.

Thats a good question, buts it has two sides. The buyer can just say he paid for it also..
