You can dissassemble the magazine into a rebuild kit and sell that. Let the buyer know that assembling it in state would be a crime and assembling it out of state and bringing it in would also be a crime.

You can not sell or offer to sell the large capacity magazines.
Large capacity magazines can be dissassmbled and the magazine parts can be legally sold.

So, for the Browning Hi-Power it can be sold without any magazines or with magazine parts. It can not be sold with the large capacity magazines.

        No.
The owner of the firearm needs to be present during the PPT.

          Thank you, for the information.
I guess large capacity magazine pistols are not worth much in California.

Can you sell a high capacity magazine pistol to a buyer out of state, shiped through a FFL to FFL?

You can ship a firearm directly, if the FFL agrees to it. Typically you would need to provide a copy of your drivers license

In reading the specifics of the law, 12020(a)(2), it could be read that you could not sell the magazine directly:

            (2) Commencing January 1, 2000, manufactures or causes to be
manufactured, imports into the state, keeps for sale, or offers or
exposes for sale, or who gives, or lends, any large-capacity
            magazine.
According to that, if you offer the magazine for sale, it is illegal, unless it meets one of the exemptions, such as selling it to a firearms dealer (21). There is nothing which limits it to just offering it for sale inside CA. I doubt that it would really be a problem as you would be selling it outside of CA, but ...

Huh ? You could always buy limited cap mags for the pistol or permanently modify the rebuild kit to accept 10 or less rounds.

Browning Hi Power is going to be worth just as much here as anywhere... IMHO

I called the CA DOJ and they said it was ok to sell a high capacity magazine out of state, contrary to what the law seems to say. Take that for what it is worth :-).

Firearms that are in CA and are not on the certified list are often worth more since people in CA can not otherwise buy them if you can transfer it as a PPT.

Since people outside of CA can buy high capacity magazines, there is no extra value, but nothing lower either.

I have a high cap mag permit and do sell out of the state. Its not an issue. However, some wholesalers wont ship into california even WITH a high cap permit.

FFLs are exempt from the restrictions. What I was talking about was a non-FFL and other non-exempt people.

I have a ruger P85. i bought it back in 1997 with 15 round mags . I can sell the gun but cannot sell the mags ( except as rebuild kits) i don't have any 10 round mags but Im gonna pick up a few at the next gun show unless I find some online cheap.
I picked up some 30 round mags I got as a holy crap item at B and B guns on Goldenwest in Westminster ( back when they were around. i also got a crate of AK mags for I think it was 5-6$ a mag. may of been 7. i dont remember it was a long time ago.). you old timers will remember that place. I never use them ( 30 round pistol mags) cause they are/look ridiculous.

other than that when/if you sell the gun remember that on pistols you must do a safety test so you need a 10 round mag if you sell it in california.

You can sell the magazines over 10 rounds, but only to a FFL (with a high capacity permit) or to someone out of state.
