DPMS LR-308 Panther OK?

No, it's not legal. The list also includes an AR-10.

I would consider it listed.

Look at the AW listings, http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/regs/chapter40.pdf and note that it just says "rifles" and then lists different models. It includes the Armalite AR-10 and Knights SR-25, which are not AR-15 pattern rilfles, but can be considered AR-pattern rifles.

The reason I asked is I was told that there is a guy selling them in CA. I was wondering how he came to the conclusion it was OL. The only thing I could think of was the LR vs AR angle.

sounds like an uninformed FFL to me. Wouldn't be the first time an FFL has sold illegal stuff in CA. If it says DPMS and Panther on it, it sure looks listed to me. Yes, there is that (any) language that could be argued, but is it worth the lawyer fees when you can just sell CMMG or JD instead?

I had a customer come in with a DPMS the other day to have me look at something. I actually fixed whatever it was and waited until the end to ask when he bought it. He bought it from a nearby store less than a year ago. I said it was an assault weapon.

However, I did notice it said DPMS A-15. The brand name Panther Arms was on it, but it did not say DPMS Panther. It said DPMS Mod A-15.

I changed my mind. I think it could be gray, but I would think it would be a good case to take forward as it is not listed as a DPMS Panther. It is listed as a DPMS Panther Arms A-15. The Panther Arms is what kind of sold me as Panther Arms is not listed, just Panther.

I don't know about the LR-308. If it is similar in that Panther Arms is on the side of the receiver but it is clearly marked LR-308, it might be quite a gray area like the RRA listings. Personally I don't think a prosecutor would have a leg to stand on given Harrott.

Me, I would rather skip all of that and just buy a CMMG or a Aeroprecision. Much less possible court time.

Plain and simple.

Why risk it? There are plenty of "non questionable" lowers to choose from. CMMG, Tactical Machining, JD, Fulton, SI defense, etc. Seems kinda silly to walk the tightrope when you don't have to.
