    Question regarding consignments

Why is it that some FFL's hold your guns 30days before selling and some do not.I put one of my guns at Ades in Orange and it sold in 3 days and the one at Centerfire in Riverside gets locked up for 30 days. What gives?

If they have a second hand dealer's license, and they buy it outright, they're supposed to hold it for 30 days before selling it so the DOJ has time to ensure it's not stolen. If you're just putting it on consignment (always a better option), it gets put on the shelf immediately and is transferred as a PPT.

The real reason is municipal codes vary between different cities. Some require items to be held for 30 days before sale some don't. It's as simple as that.

Consignment and then PPT, does the seller (original owner) get called in to complete the transaction? How do you handle your share of the sale?

Usually the seller fills out and signs the sellers portion of the paper DROS form. When a buyer buys the gun the buyers information is then filled out. He answers the Calif DROS questions and signs the form.

The FFL lists the description as well as the DROS number as well as the date and time of the DROS.

No need for the seller to return except to get paid!!

We get all the info we need from the seller on our consignment contract. Then, when they come in to pick up the money, we have them sign the DRoS form.

Thanks for the heads up, I try to get these customers to consign, but they just want cash. Hate that, makes it very difficult to turn the gun around. That is why they get less for it.
