Can someone please explain all the jargon?

Hello, Can someone please explain what does PPT, FTF, mean? Or can someone post up a link on where I would be able to find this information. There seems to be a whole bunch of jargon used that I can't decipher.
Sorry if its such a silly question.

So how does it work when someone is trying to sell you a handgun that is no longer on the roster here in Ca. They say FTF so that means Face to Face. How can this be a legitimate transaction? Is there something I should know before even considering doing this

FTF would mean that both of you go to the agreed upon FFL and complete the transaction legally through the FFL.

Private Party Transfers are exempt from the Roster. The DROS computer system is set up in a way that requires both parties to be present for a PPT. That's why the seller says the transaction needs to be FTF. If he shipped the handgun to your local FFL it would have to be on the Roster. FTF PPT at an FFL is Roster exempt.

Honestly, don't use the term FTF in California unless you are Geocaching (go look that one up). In Free America, people in certain states can still do FTF transfers without using an FFL.

In California, everything must be a PPT or Private Party Transfer and it must occur at a dealer. The only exception is intrafamilial transfers and C&R long guns over 50 years old.

So really, there is no FTF in CA, just PPT.

                            Works for that also.

A PPT need not be Face to Face. The seller can, with the permission of the FFL, come and drop off the firearm and sign a DROS worksheet, then the buyer can come and submit the DROS. This is the same as many consignment sales are done.
