A dpms 308 would not be cash and carry (most likely) and the person was asking in regard to C&R for your rifle.

C&R long guns that are over 50 years old are exempt from California's dealer transfer requirement. But if somebody was asking if your DPMS .308 rifle is cash and carry then they are most likely trying to set up an illegal transfer with you. How many posts does the person who asked you that have?

And if what you have is really a DPMS 308, it is most likely a CA AW.

A DPMS Panther is a listed assault weapon. I hope you registered it as an assault weapon back in 2000 or that you are currently not in California. Basically, you are on about to break ice even trying to sell it in California to anyone other than an assault weapons dealer and when people start asking cash and carry, you are putting on cement boots.

You need to learn the law and right now.

The clarification others are talking about is what does it say on the lower receiver? If it says DPMS Panther on it that's bad, in California. However, if it's something like a CMMG Lower with a DPMS upper then you're fine assuming it doesn't meet any other features to make it an assault weapon in California. Your profile doesn't list your location so we're actually not able to advise you much more.

Let us know your location and what is stamped on the lower receiver as well as how the rifle is configured as it relates to:
                1) detachable magazine (yes/no)
                2) flash supressor (yes/no)
                3) pistol grip (yes/no)

Given your location and the answers to 1-3 above we all would be able to advise you with much greater accuracy.
