001 FFL how do you buy things for yourself?

So how exactly do you buy something for yourself when you have your dealers license? Do you enter it into your stock or bound book? You are excluded from the waiting period as well?

If the FFL is in your name as a sole proprietor, then you can log guns out of your bound book into your private collection. CA requires you to DROS handguns to yourself just as if you were the customer. Since you have a 01 FFL and a COE you are indeed exempt from the 10 day wait.

If the FFL is in a corporation or LLC name, then you need to 4473 and DROS all guns to yourself. And you will have to leave the guns at the licensed premises until the ten days are up.

Do you have a code for that? Since I am the president of the corporation, I can take the inventory where ever I need to in the course of business. So if I want to take the firearm to the range, I can. Even during a ten day wait. I just can't store it off site unless I am at a gun show or somewhere out of town where I need it for business.

That's my impression as well. I don't have a code for it, just what was explained by ATF. I should have been more clear and said the firearm needs to stored at the licensed facility. Also, I'm a sole proprietor, so this is not something I need to deal with.

I was told by ATF during out last inspection that private purchases by FFL holders must be entered into a seperate log book.

            ???

If you keep your own personal firearms on the same premises as the business, then it is a good idea to have a separate personal bound book, but that is not a requirement. It is so you can say, "These are mine over here and those are the business's over there." Mainly this would be for you home based types.

              Hypothetical....

What if an FFL holder comes into my business and purchases a firearm. Are they subject to DROS and 10 day wait (pistol)??

A BATFE suggested using tags saying "Not For Sale" if co-mingling personal firearms and inventory in the same safe.

Some FFL's simply DROS/4473 guns to themselves that they buy for personal acquisitions.

This the correct as far as inventory and taking it off premises during the waiting period. But, business owned firearms may be stored off site as long as there is a notation in the A&D book as to where they are and access is not restricted. Firearms used for raffles may be held at the place of the raffles and custody charged to a agent/employee of the FFL.

No, but they must provide you with a copy of their FFL Ect. and you must give them a copy of the CFLC paperwork you get from DOJ on line to make the transaction legal if they are a Calif FFL dealer.

This applies to a 01 type FFL's Manufacturers ect.

                      03 (C&R) FFL's are a whole different story.

If the FFL is purchasing the firearm for themself, then they can either transfer it to their business and then transfer it to themself, OR they could have the other dealer submit the DROS. It all depends on how they want to do it.

What about an 07 FFL who has a COE but is not on the CFD? Are they exempt from the waiting period?

                            Yes, says the DOJ.

If it's a direct dealer to dealer, book to book transfer, no problem . But, I think the DROS 10-day wait exemption pull-down list would need a CFD number. Could be wrong...it's too early to check.
