CA Drivers License - New York Address?

I didn't know that the CA DMV will issue a Drivers License to folks with out of state addresses. I guess there's no reason they couldn't right? Like a consultant working out here long term, but living in a hotel or something. Something to keep in mind when you DROS if you just swipe and don't look to close at zip code, etc...

I was going over some old paperwork and just noticed that one of my customers had a New York address on their CA Drivers License. The DROS/4473 was filled out with current address and supporting docs were brought in, but I was surprised to see that the New York address was even on there.

    Anyone else seen that before?

You're supposed to verify (ask) if the DL has the current address. If it doesn't, you need to manually enter the current address, make a copy of supporting documentation for the current address and attach it to the DROS paperwork. Supporting documentation attached to the DROS is required if the current address is not on the DL. And the address recorded in your bound book, 4473 and DROS must all match, and cannot be a PO Box.

Yes, I understand this procedure, however as in the military example above you may ask "Is this your current address" and they might just say yes. For a long gun purchase, you may miss the address is out of state forget to compare it to the 4473.

Also, you need to note the supporting documentation on the 4473 as well. I include the same supporting documentation with my 4473s since I now store them separately.
