how to buy long gun intrastate

I have asked at stores and also searched here (because I am sure this is a common question), but I cannot find an answer (or at least one that is basic enough for me), so I am asking here. ANy help appreciated,

I want to buy a long gun from a seller in Nor cal and I am in So cal. How do I do this? What forms (if any) does the seller have to fill out? Does he have to take it to an ffl and pay their fees to transfer to my FFL or can he send it direct to my FFL.? Basically, how doe this need to be done?

    Thanks.

Legally, he can just ship it to your local FFL, no forms to fill out. He does need to include his name and address so that your FFL can record that information in his "bound book" in compliance with Federal law. Many FFLs will require that he include a photocopy of his Drivers License with the shipment as better verification of his name and address.

Some FFL's have a policy of only receiving firearms shipments from other FFLs. You will need to check first with your local FFL to see if he will accept a shipment directly from the seller. If he won't then you either need to find another local FFL who will, or your seller will need to find an FFL local to him that is willing to ship the long gun for him. The seller's FFL will of course charge him for this service, and you will probably be asked to cover that cost too.
