    Beat the Roster?

I read on this forum a way to get around the DOJ roster.
It seems that single action revolvers with a barrel length over 3 inches are exempt. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...=260456&page=2 (post #17)
Sooo...The seller removes the parts that cock the hammer rendering the pistol single action only. After the dros, the buyer re-installs the parts.
Question: Is this legal? And, Would a FFL holder go along with this scheme?
    Thanks for your input,

    OG.

I am sure that as soon as the Model and serial number of the gun showed up you would be toast. (it wouldn't work) There were Double action only revolvers built mostly for cops and departmental regs but that would show in the model numbers too.

why would it? I think it could be argued that if the handgun I am transfering through a dealer physically acts as a single-action revolver, and is DROSed as such, then it should be legal to do so. Just because it may look like a modern double-action revolver, and share a model number, doesnt make it a single-action revolver.

case in point would be bwiese's S&W M17? that was factory made as a single-action revolver, and imported/transfered as such. The fact tht it was the same as the regular double-action M17 doesn't matter. That revolver was a single-action revolver when it came time to DROS it.

How about the same for semi autos? Like if someone wanted let's say a Nighthawk Enforcer(not on the list) and somehow made it a single shot?

yup, thats been done as well. There is a single-shot upper available that will make length. In fact, one or two CG'ers have even offered up a loaner program for their uppers in the past, to help others acquire off-rostered 1911s.

When entering your DROS it asks for the Make, Manufacturer and Serial Number for the firearm.

I promise you that if you find a FFL stupid enough to try this, they will get a call from Cal DOJ for a violation notice.

According to the posts above, some FFL was already "stupid" enough to do it.

what the hell are you guys talking about? EVERYONE's doing this. Just look at riflegear or PRKarms on the main page! Riflegear has single shot AK's and AR's and MAC's right on their wall. And the cops looked right at them the other day when the entire dept. came in to buy some pmags!

There are more than 20 firearms shops here in Sacramento and guess how many are doing this? Zero that I've seen. Hell most of them aren't even on board with OLL's yet.

I'm aware of places that are a short drive outside of Sacramento. My point was you said EVERYONE is doing this... when in reality very few places will actually process a transaction like this.

also be aware that they may also need a 07 FFL, the manufacturer's ffl since they are modifying the firearm....

You're right, everyone isn't doing it. It has become pretty common to see single shot pistols in the shops I frequent down here. Most of them are of the evil variety, not the revolvers or 1911's. Though in reality anything can be done if you have enough time and money to throw at it.

Well...it looks like it isn't being done. I thought it would be commonplace.
