    ONE FFL, two Stores

If a fully licensed California FFL wanted to open a seasonal store out of state, and in that state all local licenses / permits are easy to obtain, does BATFE allow a "branch" of the California licensed premises to be opened or is it a whole new application process? The licensee would hop between stores, mainly on a seasonal basis, and have managers at each. In California, the manager(s) would be COE'd by the state.

Certainly BATFE would know, but the bureaucracy and voicemail maze can be frustrating and sometimes ill informed so hopefully a veteran dealer here can shed some light.

        yup.

As an example, Big5 has around 180 FFLs, one for each of its stores that sell firearms.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Am I correct in assuming that the corporation or a CEO is considered the licensee for all 180? Or, does each store have a separate person?

In my example, only one person (the current Calif. dealer) is under consideration, he would be the one applying for licensing in either Arizona or Idaho in addition to the existing California license.

THANKS to all for your input.

yes, "Big 5 Corp" is listed as the licensee name for all 180 stores, with a different "BIG 5 SPORTING GOODS #" as the business name for each store.

All FFLs are issued to one person only and are good at one location only (ex gun shows and warehouses). Even though the licensee is listed as a corporation, there is only one person associated with each separate license number. Every person who has control of the weapons must have an FFL also. By control, they mean authority to dispose of, not physical control. The kid who unlocks in the morning does not need one. A business partner would need one.

When I was interviewed, I had to provide a letter stating that my wife was not authorized to transfer the guns to anyone. Otherwise she would have had to be licensed. The reason they were concerned was that her name appears on the state corporation license as the corporation secretary.
