    Chinese SKS ???

Is there any old FFL hoiders from the late eighties who know that the Chinese SKS is illegal to have a bayonet on.I believe it is true because of the ban and it does not meet C&C requirements.
    Thanks PEZ

There are ChiCom SKS's that are legal with the bayonet attached and some that are not, that came in without bayonets. The problem is that records from China are going to be hard to get.

Basically any ChiCom SKS that came in before 1989 (with bayonet) is exempt from 922r. Any that came in after 1989 had their bayonets removed for compliance and must comply with 922r to stay legal.

I am not sure of the current status, but it was illegal because with the bayonet it was in a configuration which could not be imported. It should not have affect those which were in the US before the ban, but then again that is hard to prove. The C&R SKS needed to have the bayonet since that is the complete firearm and would not be considered a C&R if modified.

At least that is what I recall at the time.

I am not sure if it is acceptable to import a SKS with a bayonet today.

I was talking in general terms with regards to the SKS. Some, like the Russian SKS are a C&R and others are not.
