    OLL purchase question...

Looking to make a couple purchases with my tax return, one being a Colt 1911 Defender and the other an OLL to begin my AR build. Now here is where my confusion comes in and please correct me, and forgive my ignorance... Well here in good ol' CA as you know only one pistol may be purchased within a 30 day period, and to my understanding (this is where my ignorance comes in) an OLL purchase is handled as a pistol. If so would I have to wait 30 days between purchasing the Colt and the OLL or am I just completely wrong here?

so you are looking into buying just the OLL receiver in prep for your build?

Not exactly. OLL is handled as "other" not a handgun or long gun. The 1 in 30 rule does not apply but the not-a-long gun (i.e., other) designation means you must be 21 to purchase a lower. AR pistols are handled as handguns but that doesn't sound like what you are talking about.

Thanks for the info Halifax. I don't have to worry about the 21 thing, but wasn't sure how the "other" classifaction applied to 1 in 30 deal.

Rooftop Voter... yes I'm looking to buy the OLL in prep for my build. I'm actually looking at a kit with a 20" bull barrel which is complete minus the lower. Wanted a .223 wylde chamber, but can't get the whole kit in .223 wylde. So I'm opting for the kit chambered in 5.56 Nato.

FUD. OLL is handled federally as an "other" and therefore cannot be transferred through an FFL to anyone under the age of 21. It is not a pistol though and will be DROSed as a long gun. Buying an OLL will not impede your 1 in 30 in any manner whatsoever.

          Buy away!
