    Weapons on ban list?

I have some ar15's and ak47's that I had to register with the State of California DOJ because these were ASSAULT WEAPONS AND WERE PUT ON A REGISTRATION LIST. My question is, could I ever sell these weapons and if so, to who? Would they have to be shipped/sold out of state? I hope this is the right forum to ask this question.

information on that is in the DOJ registration paperwork. I registered some myself back in 89/92 and the registration paperwork I have says if I remove them from California or turn them into the police, to inform the DOJ so they can send me a form that I can fill out and return, to delete them from my registration record.

I believe you can only sell an assault weapon in California to a licensed Assault Weapons Dealer, not any FFL mind you. You certainly cannot sell to an individual.

As I see it, your options are sell to a registered Assult Weapons Dealer in Calif or take them out of the state. Once out of Calif I would assume you could sell them if legal to do so, in that state.

Keep in mind though, because they are already legal and in the state you can get a fair price because of the high pre-ban demand... something worth considering cause I like capitalism.

Before the legislature removed the ability for the AG to add firearms to the ban list you had something like 30/60/90 days to register the newly banned rifle.

That is no longer the case as registration is now closed. Now it would depend on the terms of the new legislation.

The registered firearms are only legal for the registered person and as was stated, can only be sold to an AW dealer, so there is actually no value in the state unless you can convert them to something which is not banned (hard, if it is by name) AND get them un-registered with CA, then have the same value as any other similar firearm, although less for out of state purchasers.

Only handguns in CA which are not on the certified list are worth more, which is a completely different thing.
