    PPT on non-roster handgun

Thanks in advance for help with this question.

I live in Orange County, and I'm interested in purchasing a non-roster handgun from someone in Kern County. I know that we have to perform the PPT face-to-face at an FFL. My question is this: do I still have to wait the normal 10-day DROS? I would probably be meeting this person in Bakersfield, which is a 2.5 hour drive, and I don't want to have to make that drive twice - once to start the DROS and once to pick up the gun. Do I have any other options?

yes, you have to do the 10-day DROS, and will have to drive to the FFL twice.

That is why it is may be worth talking the seller into driving closer to where you live. The farther you can get him to drive ONCE, is that much less you'll need to drive TWICE.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

offer to pay for their gas and time to drive down to a shop near you?

Unless you are exempt from the waiting period, which is not likely since you would know that, you would need to go twice. There is no exemption from the waiting period because it is a long drive.

One option is to not purchase the firearm, but I doubt that you would like that option.

The firearm can not be transferred from one FFL to another closer to you. The only exception to this might be if it were the same business, with the same licenses, but different locations. Quite unlikely to find such a place and the cost would most likely be high.

Your best bet is to get the seller to travel the distance once, even if it costs you some money or find something fun to do up in that area. There is a nice ice cream place in Bakersfield :-).

Haha, yeah, I definitely don't like the first option.

Thanks for the advice. I'll see if I can't get him to come down here.
