10 day wait period still apply while under the 30 day background check?

Alright not sure how to explain this very well so I'll just describe what I'm trying to do by using an example:

I go into an FFL, purchase a long gun. I wait the 10 days and go back to pick up the long gun on the 10th day. While there at the FFL, on pick up day, I realize that now I want a handgun that the FFL has in stock.

Can I buy the handgun and walk out that very day without having to wait another 10 days since I'm still under the 30 day background check?

You have to wait another 10 days. Long gun DROS's and handgun DROS's aren't compatible anyway. You can put multiple long guns on one DROS but only a single handgun per DROS.

Each firearm has a waiting period associated with it and it is based on when the DROS is submitted, so no, you would have to submit the DROS and wait 10 days (240 hours to be exact).

Ahh okay got it. So the only way around the 10 day wait is for long guns (and even then the DROS has to be initially set up from the start as a 'multiple' right?)

But then when it comes to hand guns since each require a separate DROS anyway then there is absolutely no way around "adding" hand guns?

        Do I have it straight?

You can do multiple non-handguns if it is part of a single sale, loan or transfer, so all would be under the same waiting period. Yes, it has to be done at the start, although some FFLs claim otherwise based on what they decide to define the term "single sale" as.

Yes, each handgun has to have a separate DROS, so the waiting period for each one is slightly different (yes, seconds count).

Yep, and remember, you can only start a handgun DROS once every 30 days.

Okay I got it now. Sorry if I was confusing in my wording. Like I said, I wasn't entirely sure how to explain what I meant.

Oh yeah and thanks for the reminder on the one in thirty day thing for hand guns.

Thanks a lot everyone. I do not take anyone's help for granted so I appreciate the input very much.

The handgun limit of 1 per 30 days does not apply to PPTs and there are other exemptions as well, such as having a C&R FFL and CA DOJ COE, even for non-C&Rs.
