    DROS 30 days question

So the background check clears you for 30 physical days or 30 calendar days?--Am I even using correct terminology on that?

    So as an example......

January has 31 days in the month. If the DROS/background is started on let's say Jan 15th, are you clear and valid until Feb 15th the next month or Feb 14th?

    Thanks.

never heard of that. I am sure someone will chime in to help. I know you can add rifles to a PPT in the 10 day window and not have to pay again for it.

The law states one gun every 30 days. Not one gun a month.

Only One brand new gun purchase every 30 days but no amount given on PPT transfers.

So that would mean in my example I gave, that the background check would only last until the 14th?

Curious about this topic too.... What about adding a long gun when the transfer is directly from an FFL? Is there a 10 day window or the full 30 days?

For background check you are given a 10 day period before you can pickup the weapon.

Sorry I realize I wasn't very clear on what I meant....

If you bought one long gun, come in after the 10 day wait then decide you want to buy another one do you have 30 days after the DROS was started to add on another before having to re-DROS?

Not exactly sure what you are asking here but you have 30 twenty-four hour periods to pick up your firearm after the DROS is submitted. After that you need to re-apply. From your example, Feb 14th on the minute the DROS was submitted is the last chance to pick up your firearm.

ETA: you posted while I was typing. Once the dealer signs the 4473, the deal is done. If you came back after the 10 days and got your gun, that is the end of the deal. You can't add anything else. If you haven't picked up your gun the dealer may allow you to buy another long gun before signing the 4473 and yes the 30 twenty-four hour periods would be the limit on that.

BTW, many dealers will not allow you to add guns no matter what after the DROS is submitted.

I started out asking one question then asked a 2nd one....

I have my answer now on the 30 day thing; 30 x 24 hr periods

The other thing I wasn't sure on was how long you have to add another long gun to a DROS if you decide you want to buy another long gun before your 30 day background check expires? I'm assuming it's the full 30 days until the background check expires.

Ah okay got it. I was under the impression that adding onto the DROS was legal. So is it more a matter of preference/how well the FFL is informed on the laws?

It has more to do with changing the DROS after it has been submitted. Some dealers will change it by writing in the new number of long guns and some see that practice as prohibited. There have been some very heated discussions here on that issue.

One thing for certain, you can't pick up one long gun then come back to buy another on the same DROS.

Ahhhhh now I think I have it..... So, the DROS has to be originally set up for a multiple..... Otherwise it's a no-go?

Also this is only for handguns not long arms.
