    Shotgun transfer

    Hello, I bought a Remington 870 from a friend that pased away before we did the Private Party Transfer. Can I still do the transfer and what will I need?

      To do it legally, you would need to have proof that you actually purchased the firearm and you would need to most likely run it through the estate. This is not a simple and easy process. You might need to talk to an attorney. If you don't have proof that you paid, then most likely there is nothing you can do but to ask whoever is dealing with the estate if they will allow you to have it.

          It is an illegal transfer if the PPT is not done.

          Since CA does not track serial numbers of long guns, there is not an issue of selling it. It also means that it is difficult to prove that it was not properly transferred.
