    Missing Firearms

    My dad had a .38 Spl and an M1 carbine. he has passed .I found ammo but no gun. how can I tell if he sold them to turners or some other place ?

      As he said above. There is no way to search for that information. The information may not even be in any computer base.

        I'm assuming you would be the owner of the guns if found? Do you have the serial numbers?

          If your Father was a CA resident, and sold them to a CA Dealer, there should be a record of the sale(s). CA Dealers are required to enter firearms purchased from a non-licensee into the DES system as a "BUY" transaction, including the name and address of the Seller. If that was the case, the CA DOJ would know the models and serial numbers of the firearms your father sold to the Dealer. The biggest challenge, is that the CA DOJ may simply be unwilling to provide the information, citing privacy laws or perhaps other laws restricting the disclosure.

            The information you're alluding to is NOT available via the DROS system.
            DOJ will not/cannot search their data base for such information.
