Paperwork Signatures after 10 Day Wait

This is a PSA to whomever the FFL is in Tracy that is doing paperwork "online" without having customer coming in and then collecting all signatures after the 10 day wait...

You're going to be in a world of hurt if CA DOJ notices have items in the process of DROS without thumbprints on pending DROS copies..

I don't know who you are... (I don't really care), but in the event you just didn't know...you probably want to stop doing it.

The only reason I know about this is because someone just PMd me here on calguns asking if I would do it since "There's an FFL doing this in Tracy so thought I'd ask"...

I actually wonder who would be more annoyed, the DOJ for not getting a signature and thumbprint or the ATF for starting a background check without a valid 4473... I'm betting the ATF

I saw a new FFL website that was touting the same thing on a newly built website saying they were going to streamline how guns are bought.

After seeing what they were saying, my conclusion was there was no way anything they were saying could be legal in todays world. If caught, it would be instant revocation of their FFL by ATF. (i don't think they were in Tracy)

Now..I'm all for online paperwork.. I can see them streamlining the process where 4473s ARE filled out online, but printed out in store with docs verified (ID, etc..) and then signed BEFORE the background check is submitted.. that would help really busy B&M places in my opinion...I don't know if that's what they were advertising, but could be doable in states where just the 4473 is needed... doesn't help in CA where part of the requirement for us is actually swiping a DL/ID...

Aren't we required to visually inspect the ID with address and in situations where the current address is not on the ID, visualize the government issued document that states the current address? Not sure how you would verify that online.

That's the part I was saying would happen in person before it gets signed any bg gets submitted, etc..just helps streamline and error check the actual form fill out if offered online..

With the new 4473 though, we need to fill out the information on what firearm or firearms are being bought prior to them filling out everything else.
