Moving Abroad, had a question about exporting

    Hi,

I am moving abroad next year (Philippines) and would like to bring a pistol or two with me.

I know I would need to get some paperwork done in Manila which I think would be able to obtain (will find out in Oct)

I am not sure how to go about it here?
Do I need to contact ATF or Customs?

    Thanks in Advance.

You need to contact someone with an import/export license for firearms.

ATF does not regulate the export of firearms, the BIS and state department regulate them. You will have to get an import license from the Philippine government, along with an End User Certificate showing the guns will not be sold to nor used by Law Enforcement or Military end users. We export guns all over the world, it isn't too difficult. Once we received all of the necessary documents from the Philippines we would then apply for an export license. Presuming it was approved we would then ship the gun(s). Keep in mind a pistol will have to go by air and I can guarantee you'll be paying at least $600-$800 for something as small as a pistol. Many carriers don't want to deal with guns at all so we would likely have to find a freight-forwarder who will find a cooperative airline and you may pay even more, again, just for the shipping. Certain countries assess duties and taxes on guns too, whether or not they're personal property so I would recommend doing your research, you could end up paying 3-4 times the value of the gun just to get it to Manila.
