Selling to a CA FFL from out-of-state (private individual)

I had posted on TacSwap for a P365 with a couple holsters, 2 10 round magazines, and 2 12 round magazines that I wanted to sell. I was recently contacted by an individual with an FFL in Los Angeles. He would like to purchase the handgun, magazines, etc. He provided me with a copy of his FFL license, and California license as well. These both checked out on the ATF?s EZFFL page, both in name, and the address he provided me with. The P365 does not have a bullet button, and is not on the roster. Also, there are two magazines which are in excess of California capacity, to my knowledge. He has assured me that as an FFL, he can take possession of these. he is offering to set me up with shipping from UPS directly to his FFL address in California.

I am just a redneck from West Virginia who is trying to ensure that I remain above board. Is there anything here I am missing? Are all CA FFLs good to take possession of off-roster guns and high-cap mags?

    Thank you in advance!

I don?t know what I?m looking for on these forms, but his license only seems to show FFL-07. He also sent me a copy of his CFD paperwork/number, if that matters.

DO NOT LET THEM SEND YOU A LABEL !!!!!!!!!!

This is how scams are done. The FFL might be real but someone with a copy of it is using it to steal.

If they send you a label they can have the box redirected after you ship it to a different location.

Ok! Thank you! I will set the label up with confirmation for that address.

?if I can confirm if he can acceptance off-roster pistol and mags.

off roster is fine for any 01 ffl or 07 ff

in CA a ffl need a "large cap mag permit" to buy or sell 10+ mags

You said you were contact by an FFL in Los Angeles then posted the info for an FFL in Manteca which is about 5 hours north of Los Angeles. If you have not done so already, call the FFL to verify, don't just use email or PM's

Sorry, I misspoke. His phone number was LA, but his FFL address and status have been verified as active by a call to the ATF and through their online address verification system.

ok but you need to make sure you are dealing with the dealer not someone that has their info.

Also keep in mind that most dealers do not shop on line for used stuff that they can get new much cheaper direct. You would have to be giving it away for a dealer to want it.

The only person that it could be sold to by the CA FFL is a cop. An cops get discounts so a used 365 is worth almost nothing in CA

What are you talking about? What do you mean an 07 doesn't cut it? Cut what exactly?

Understood. This is why I wanted to vet the FFL address through the ATF. The address on the website is the same as what he gave me on the form. I told him that I needed to create the label to ensure it goes to the address the ATF has on record for that FFL.

I asked myself the same questions about the value in this situation. I told him I would do 400 plus shipping for the pistol, 4 mags, and 2 holsters?. I?m not giving it away, but it?s a good deal for CCW, IMO.

                            Got it.

Guy just got the license this year..like 2 months ago. So either bad business plan or some sketchy angle.
