    Single Action Roster Exemption?

I tried to search but didn?t come up with any results. I?ve recently been told by an FFL that single action revolvers are exempt from the roster. This is news to me and I try to stay updated on it. If that is the case, why aren?t Colt SAA listed but some replicas are? I?m shopping for a couple C&R guns for wall hangers but would rather cut to new production SAAs if possible. Thanks and I?m sorry if my search-fu is inadequate and this is spelled out elsewhere.

Some single action revolvers are exempt from the roster so there is no list.

They’re just exempt from rostering requirements.

This exemption applies to a revolver that requires the hammer to be manually cocked by hand before each shot. The revolver must have a barrel at least 3" in length, an overall length of 7.5", and a cylinder that holds at least 5 rounds.

We can convert Smith & Wesson & Dan Wesson double action revolvers to single action to meet this exemption. Email us for info.

Good luck finding a new production Colt SAA. I think Colt still makes them but not very many. Expect to pay 3-4 times as much as a SAA clone.

The new Colt SAA's are only made in Colt's custom shop and as Nardo said...expensive. You'd be better off buying a second of third generation original SAA.
Expect "old" Colts to run roughly between $1200.00 and $6000.00 or more depending on what you'll settle for. You won"t find any "wall hanger" types. Old Colts hold there value. I know...I collect them.
There are various auction houses that auction them off regularly.

You still have restrictions on some revolvers being converted to SA for a Roster exemption.
As an example the S&W Governor still can't be imported into California, SA exemption or not, because it is considered Short Barrel Rifle because it can chamber a .410 shell.
Also, as your FFL said - if the pistol qualifies as C&R it is, by definition, Roster exempt.
