CA resident to out of state gunsmith question

I have a Thompson Contender reciever and a barrel I'm considering sending to Mike Bellm in Colorado for some repair work. It's a rifle not a pistol. I have a couple questions

1) Do I need to find a local FFL to ship and recieve it?
2) If I do it and when it comes back can I just go and pick it up or does it need to be DROS'd and have to wait ten days?
3) If it needs to be DROS'd do I need a RealId to DROS a long gun?

Sorry if this is a redundant question I looked around a little here but didn't find the info I'm asking about

Take it to local FFL, they log it into gunsmithing, they send out to its destination, work performed, they send it back to your FFL who logs it back out to you completed. No, this is not free, however no DROS
