FFL transfer delayed due to C19, do I have any options?

Hey CG,

I purchased a shotgun from a out of state dealer to be transferred through a home based FFL in my town.

Gun arrived but the FFL has tested positive for Covid and informed me he will not be taking appointments until after the holiday

I purchased the gun specifically for a hunt on 12/6 and this will unfortunately put my pick up passed that

Since he already has taken possession, is it possible to maybe move it to another FFL that can handle it sooner, if he is willing?

Obviously it would be ideal to speak to him however from brief message exchanges I think he's way under the weather as the comms have been delayed also.

Thanks, just trying to explore options, right now thats 1 week minimum away before an appointment vs possibly having it moved and doing paperwork early next week hopefully hed be on the up and up by then

It's awesome the ffl doesnt want to potentially impact others, as well as may be truly sick. The options include:

1. Transfer to another (local) ffl. Im assuming extra fees/shipping to OP may apply

2. Assuming health permitting, figure out a creative option to do the paperwork

Don't ask him to transfer it...tell him to transfer it to another FFL. As far as I can see, you do have that option. You bought and paid for it and you have a reasonable expectation that it will be transferred in a timely fashion.
I have gone so far as drive to another FFL to pick up guns that the holding FFL couldn't transfer.

I reached out to a FFL in the area I have used in the passed who used to do mobile services, waiting to hear back.

If the guy's sick, the guy's sick. This is always the risk when dealing with one-man operations, whether it's gun store, mechanic, or your trust attorney (mine died). If he can't do the DROS, how is transferring it to another dealer more likely?

Absolutely! Nothing wrong shopping for a discount table top dealer. However, this stuff can happen.

Storefront dealers charge more because they have employees who can still take care of business when the dealer is sick. You get what you pay for.

It wouldn’t hurt to ask him but you can’t fault the guy for being sick and not wanting people over at his house while sick.
